Today’s Choices: Tomorrow’s Realities

Life is a series of choices, and every choice has consequences. Granted some choices are small and have seemingly insignificant consequences. But all choices do have consequences. This is the law of sowing and reaping established in Genesis 1:11, “And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.” It is very simple: It you plant an apple seed, you will grow an apple tree, and the tree will produce apples. This is true in all areas of life. Where you are today in your physical life, as well as your spiritual life, is a result of the choices you made (the seeds you planted) yesterday. And the choices you make (the seeds you plant) today will determine your destiny tomorrow.

One example we can consider regarding the difference our choices make is in the area of food. Every day – actually several times a day, we make choices concerning the foods we eat. Unhealthy choices will produce an unhealthy body and weight gain. Some of us sow undesirable seeds and then pray for a crop failure. But remember the law of sowing and reaping, “. . . whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” (Galatians 6:7) This is also true on the opposite side of the coin. Good choices produce good results. Proper diet and exercise will produce a healthy body.

Applying this to our spiritual lives, if we choose to eat spiritual junk food, instead of filling our minds and hearts with the Word of God, an unhealthy spiritual life will be produced. Many Christians live weak and anemic lives because of the television shows, movies, music, and books they feed on. To be healthy and strong spiritually, we must have a daily intake of the Word of God. This can be in the form of Bible reading, listening to anointed teaching/preaching, and listening to spiritually uplifting music. Most of us would never think of going a day without food for our physical bodies, but how many of us go for days without receiving the Word of God into our lives?

We also need to remember that whether we sow good or bad seeds, the results may not manifest overnight. In the natural, there is a span of time between planting and harvest. The harvest may be a long way off, but be assured it will come!
